Some recent seascapes

Things have gotten pretty busy recently and this obviously makes it much harder for me to get out for non-people pics! The weather over the last week hasn’t helped either. These seascapes are my escape, they are the result of me being able to wander off to some quiet part of the island and just relax, no pressure, no expectations, no rapid fire while spouting off posing instructions. Just me and my camera, very relaxing and something I absolutely have to make time for.

Anyway here are a couple of recent ones, the first is actually a little unique. I had wanted to get the shot with this rusted out jetty but was kinda worried before making my way over that the sailboat would be in the way… well as you can tell it is, the funny part is it is our sailboat! The one we spent the night on so that is my family on our boat in one of my images. The image actually has more potential and I will be back with hopefully better light, a tiny bit different perspective and no boat next time!

This one below is from 2 days ago, there were some great big thunderheads offshore, the kind you only get this time of year so I ventured out in hopes of doing something with one of them. As you can see I ended up where I always do, on a beach somewhere…. so sorry for the monotony! It worked out pretty well though, I think I will call it – The flood gates!

Cara & Etienne trash the dress!

When Cara contacted me about a trash the dress session I was immediately excited! This is such an awesome opportunity to get creative with a situation that you would normally have to be so careful with. Cara and Etienne were fantastic to work with and the weather was absolutely ideal, right through till after the sun went down and the clouds lit up.

This ended up being such a fun session that we just kept going till the light was just about gone. Hopefully some of my bride’s this year consider doing a session like this – hint, hint;)Its a great way to capture some unique images!

Mark & Janice – Stonehole Bay – May 24th

Mark & Janice contacted me months ago about there wedding in Bermuda and we were back and forth so much it was great to finally to meet them in person. They had a awesome group of friends / family with them and they really couldn’t have asked for better weather. The high tide caused a bit of an issue with getting their feet wet but it wasn’t long before they were knee deep in it:)

When I saw these shots, I was taken aback by how vivid and rich these photographs really are. I felt like I was present for all the celebration. Albeit, wonderful to see, I wish I could have been there in person. Nonetheless, I am consoled to see the beautiful photography of you. I hope that you both will live out all the best of your childhood dreams and make the most of this fantastic world. We have been longtime friends, and as such deserve the best. And I hope that you will both stay very well. By seeing these pictures, I feel as if I were a part of your special wedding day. Best wishes! John

Beautiful beach, great weather and most of all, lovely couples!!
Love all the pictures and great catch for the one opening champagne!
Congratulations!

AuraMay 19, 2009 - 10:47 am

These photos are terrific! It’s so great to see wedding photos where the smiles look so stress free… lol.
While the expressions on Dan’s and Carolyn’s faces as the champagne is being popped are totally fab, I’m partial to the one of Carolyn just above that… ought to be blown up and framed in the living room above the fireplace. CHEERS!

ariMay 19, 2009 - 6:19 pm

so lovely!! you both look stunning, and what scenery! the colors and beauty of the day are explosive. congratulations on everything!!

ari :)

MegMay 21, 2009 - 4:52 pm

Carolyn you look so beautiful! The “saucy” picture of you two kissing on the beach looks like the cover of a romance novel! I also love the champagne popping one. So many fabulous pictures!

Harbour Nights are back!

Well for those of you that have not heard Harbour Nights has started back up. This year though, things are not quite the same. For one, they have cut back from 25 nights to 17 and from the sounds of it we are lucky to have that…. Last Wednesday was the first and although there was a fairly good turn out people wise, sales were slow.  To be expected I suppose, last year was awesome so I know it is not the product.

I am there every Wednesday so please pop on by and show your support for a great local event. There is now a great price on the two smaller sizes in my line up as I dropped it a tad, just for Harbour Nights though:)

Just a little update – these last two Wednesdays have rocked!! Hopefully it continues!!

May 2nd – Heading West!

This last week and what looks like the whole of next week is amazing, simply stunning weather. Not one to pass up an opportunity I headed west in search of something new, not easy trust me… Fortunately I fell upon a really nice area that I have passed many times before but this time was absent of cars, tents and BBQ’s…..

New Wide format!

Well in an attempt to try a little something new I have decided to try my hand at panoramic seascapes. I have been threatening to do this for over a year now and I finally committed and bought a great pano head (ok we are up to 35lbs of gear I lug around now…)

This is certainly going to be a learning experience:)It gets quite tricky setting up on a rock in the water, getting all your settings dialed in, levelling and then attempting to capture a series of images rather swiftly… As you can imagine there is no pause button on water movement! Here is my first attempt, a great learning experience for sure and hopefully the first of many more.

It’s stunning Gavin

Weekend adventures!

Well this weekend presented itself with all the makings of a great photographic weekend. I had the time (I have a lot of that these days…) and the weather was certainly cooperating! So I headed out Saturday afternoon with great intentions and several hours of planned, undisturbed adventures.

I headed East and stopped in the Grotto Bay area. After a couple hours of spelunking, tree climbing and coastal walks it kinda dawned on me that I was out trekking and exploring, the photography wasn’t really the focus… That time of day is just bad news for most types of images, oh well, I guess the 30lbs of gear on my back was good exercise anyway!

After exploring Tom Moore’s it was starting to get into the golden hour so the next stop was St.George’s! The problem was that once I started driving around I just couldn’t bring myself to stop anywhere, the clouds got too thick killing the light and all of the places on my list were just not ideal so this ended up becoming a veeeery long drive! A very frustrating end to what was a fun afternoon but with little picture taking.

Determined not to be denied a keeper for the weekend I awoke early this morning and headed out again! This time back to a more familiar patch of the rock, one that I have been meaning to get back to for morning light. Luckily for me it was a stunning morning, certainly making up for the prior day. It actually turned out to be a very wet morning also:

_4199910

You can see where this is going I’m sure….

_4199937

Yup! It happened, lured in by the occasional calm that comes with the cycles of waves I inched my gear closer and closer…..

_4199950

LOL what an idiot! Moments before impact… Luckily none of my gear is really bothered by the water! Nothing a rinse under some fresh water wont fix, I was way more upset that my shoes and socks where soaked!

Anyway after that I found a cute little fella sleeping in! View the full post »
